Atropine is a sympathomimetic agent which mimics sympathetic nerve effects (i.e. drying of mouth, increased heart rate, reduced gastrointestinal activity).

Atropine is a commonly used pre-anaesthetic agent used in combination with acepromazine to reduce ptyalism prior to intravenous anaesthetic. Atropine can be safely used with IV anaesthetics such as alfaxan as well as sedative drugs such as Medetomidine.
