Hydromorphone is a similar opioid to oxymorphone and can be used as a sedative and analgesia agent in cats.
Combinations of drugs, such as acepromazine and medetomidine allow it to be used in post-operative orthopedic cases as well as exploratory laparotomy.
Hydromorphone can be given SQ or IM, and respiratory depression does occur at high doses.
