Diphenoxylate is an opioid agonist that works similar in action on the gastrointestinal tract to morphine[1] and diphenoxylate[2], resulting in delayed peristalsis.

It is commonly used in dogs with chronic diarrhea associated with ulcerative colitis.

Recommended dose rate in dogs is 0.1 - 0.3 mg/kg given orally every 12 hours.
