Adult Phlebotomus spp fly

Phlebotomus spp are a hematophagous parasitic fly which can transmit Leishmania spp.

Only females are parasitic, with male being free-living.

Species which are parasitic to dogs include:

  • Phlebotomus argentipes[1] - only species involved in canine leishmaniasis
  • Phlebotomus neglectus
  • Phlebotomus perfiliewi perfiliewi
  • Phlebotomus chinensis - China
