Oxytocin

Oxytocin is a neuropeptide produced by the pituitary in response to labor.
This drug causes strong, coordinated contractions of the estrogen-primed uterus.
Oxytocin is used primarily in dogs for treatment of dystocia.
Recommended dose rate is 0.25 IU every 2 hours. Larger doses may cause uterine tetany[1].
Oxytocin does not dissociate readily from myometrial receptors, so there is little wisdom in continuing treatment if labor does not progress[2].
