Myxobacteria are a group of Gram-negative bacteria which can cause metritis and epizootic abortions[1] in cattle worldwide.

These soil bacteria belong to the group Proteobacteria. Myxobacteria is associated with beef cattle that graze in the mountainous regions of California, southern Oregon and western Nevada, and is transmitted by the argasid tick Ornithodoros coriaceus[2].

A newly developed PCR assay has been developed for quick isolation of this bacterium.

The bacteria are sensitive to most broad-spectrum antimicrobials including ceftiofur and Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole.
