Coughing, defined as the forceful expulsion of air from the lungs has many causes in dogs.
Coughing may be acute or chronic, and causes include:

- - Bronchial carcinoma
- - Pulmonary carcinoma
- - Thyroid carcinoma
- - Cranial mediastinal carcinoma
- - Thymoma
Ultrasonography, radiographs and CT/MRI imaging are indicated to determine whether the cause of coughing is primary pulmonary or secondary pulmonary disease.
