Propofol

Propofol is a versatile anesthetic injection indicated for use in dogs for induction and maintenance of general anesthesia for up to 20 minutes and for induction where maintenance is provided by inhalant anesthetics.

This drug has a rapid onset of action with final induction between 1 - 2 minutes and induced excitement is uncommon even with low doses. The drug induces anesthesia that can be maintained for up to 20 minutes, with an extension of effect by top-up doses if necessary. It can also be used as an inducting agent prior to maintenance by an inhalant such as isoflurane or sevoflurane.

  • Dentals
  • Biopsies
  • Radiographs
  • Lumpectomy
  • Endoscopy

Recommended dose rate is 2.5 - 5.5 mg/kg given intravenously.
