Ranitidine is an antiemetic drug used to control vomiting in dogs.

This drug is an histaminergic antagonist (H2-blocker) which has shown to be effective at reducing gastric acid secretion.

In addition, ranitidine has prokinetic effects on the gastrointestinal tract similar to cisapride and metoclopramide, as a result of its weak muscarinergic antagonist effects.

As with Famotidine, ranitidine may be useful for severe persistent vomiting when oesophageal reflux or oesophagitis is a concern.

Ranitidine recommended dosage is 2.5 mg/kg IV twice daily or 3.5 mg/kg orally twice daily.
