Ascites

Ascites is a collective symptomatic term for any disease which causes fluid accumulation in the abdomen.
Dogs with ascites usually present with a pendulous abdomen and ballotment leads to fluid wave on auscultaiton.
Although there are a large number of underlying causes, ascites is commonly seen in:
- Heart diseases
- Nephrotic syndrome
- Hepatitis
- Hypoproteinemia associated with intestinal parasites
