The Estrela Mountain Dog breed was popularized in Portugal, but may have originated during Roam timed or during the reign of the Visigoths.

The Estrela Mountain Dog’s coat is on the thick side that may be short haired or long haired. The undercoat of the Estrela Mountain Dog puppy is dense and has a rough texture similar to goat hairs. Coat colors may range from fawn, yellow, brindle, wolf-grey, and sometimes have white markings with a black mask.
