Pneumonitis refers to any inflammatory disease of the lungs.

In dogs, this is commonly observed in heartworm disease and chronic pulmonary interstitial fibrosis.

When consolidation and exudation of fluid within the pulmonary parenchyma occurs, pneumonia is the end result.

For treatment, see pneumonia.
